Official Verified UTR matchplay
"Make your matches count"
We are excited to partner with UTR to offer UTR-Verified Matchplay Opportunities for our junior players this summer! Your UTR Rating is based purely on results and is age & gender-blind. Think of it like a golf handicap, but for tennis. If you've played USTA Junior Tournaments, you may already have a UTR Rating.
Why UTR?
The RCW Team understands the importance of match play and competition to a players athletic development. We are dedicated to creating an environment that provides all the necessary components for a young tennis player to thrive. Our goal is to start players young, get them playing the sport as soon as possible, foster their love of the game of tennis and educate them and their parents on all the opportunities and pathways available in the sport. Competition can be a road block for many young players and their love of the game for various reasons. Our coaching staff has a tremendous amount of competitive playing experience since a very young age and is passionate about helping all our young players create strong, positive mindsets towards competition. Tennis, like any sport, is meant to be played, not just practiced.
RCW is committed to helping young tennis players and their families navigate the often complicated pathway through junior team tennis, competitive junior tournaments, high school tennis, college tennis, professional tennis and recreational adult tennis. UTR (Universal Tennis Rating) continues to be a valid, accurate measure of competitive playing ability, which is why most college coaches continue to use UTR as their first stop in the recruiting process for new players. Conversely, UTR provides a simple way for high school players to explore legitimate possibilities for playing college tennis by viewing all current team rosters and the UTR’s of those players. This gives players a head start in knowing where they stand and where they need to get their UTR to be considered by college coaches. Much like high school coaches but even more so, college coaches are looking for an extensive history of competitive play from incoming players. Coaches want to help continue developing a player’s game, but they do expect players to enjoy the challenges that competitive play poses. A player’s UTR profile tells this story.
Whether you are just getting started or well on your way in your competitive playing journey, our coaching staff wants to help you develop a winner’s mindset and enjoy this never-ending process.

Understanding the UTR Rating Algorithm

Benefits of UTR Rating
The UTR Rating provides a real-time view of a player’s true skill level. Having a UTR Rating enables you to track your progress, find level-based play, and expand your tennis network to play with people across age, gender and tennis silo.
Who Has a UTR Rating?
Every tennis player can have a UTR Rating, whether you are a recreational, junior, high school, college or pro player.
Verified UTR Rating vs. UTR Rating
The UTR Rating counts all results, including matches played in verified tournaments/events and non-verified matches. The Verified UTR Rating counts match results played in only verified tournaments and events.
For example, Tennis Australia comps/tournament matches count toward Verified UTR Rating and UTR Rating. Casual/practice matches and self-posted scores count only toward UTR Rating.
What is the best way to improve my UTR Rating?
-
Compete Well – You can improve your UTR Rating by winning more games than expected, regardless of whether you win or lose the match and whether you play higher- or lower-rated opponents. Compete well and try to win as many games as possible; this is the best way to improve your UTR Rating.
-
Play Often – The more matches you play, the quicker your UTR Rating will reflect your current form. It is also best to play against opponents who are close to your rating regardless of whether they are above or below you.
-
Be Patient – Since the UTR Rating is a rolling weighted average, the effect of new results is slightly lagged. Your UTR Rating may take time to reflect a recent outcome.
